Cufflinks

Another fashion accessory which men have loved over the years is the cufflink. From the original cuff strings to finally, the cufflinks, men have really evolved not just in their physical attributes but likewise in their fashion preferences.

Cufflinks have become a way of statement of sorts to many influential people, both in real life and fictional works.

One notable character in the book The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Meyer Wolfsheim, wore cufflinks with teeth as design. It was said that the design tells the real persona of Wolfsheim which is a combination of sophistication, thus the cufflinks, and barbarism, thus the teeth.

In the political arena, former US President Richard Nixon was a big fan of the formal wear. He loved to wear ties, business suits and dress shoes even during his “relaxed” days. And when he finally won the highest seat in all of America, he started to sport a pair of gold cufflinks with the presidential eagle.

A cufflink even had a part in the rough marriage of Princess Diana and Prince Charles. During their honeymoon, Princess Diana allegedly saw a pair of cufflinks with the initials CC engraved. The CC stands for the names of Charles and Camilla.

Lesson of the story? Don’t belittle the influence of this small piece of accessory.
